Business Continuity Consulting That Starts with What Must Not Stop
Recovery plans fail when they protect systems instead of the business. Our business continuity consulting starts with the services customers and staff depend on, how long each can be down, and how much data each can afford to lose.
Critical services
What customers and staff rely on and what each hour of downtime costs.
Recovery targets
Maximum downtime (RTO) and maximum data loss (RPO) agreed with the business.
Risks
Outages, ransomware, provider failures, and human error that could stop each service.
A recovery tier per service: hot standby, warm standby, or backup and restore

Disaster Recovery Consulting: Backups, Failover, and Runbooks
Our disaster recovery consulting turns the targets into three layers of protection, sized to each service so you do not pay for instant failover where a restore from backup is enough.
-
Backups
What is backed up, how often, and where isolated copies are kept.
-
Failover
A secondary region or provider for services that cannot wait for a restore.
-
Runbooks
Step-by-step recovery procedures with named owners and decision points.
-
Communication
Who tells customers, staff, and regulators what, and when.
Disaster Recovery Planning You Can Test
A recovery plan is only proven when it has been run. We schedule tests that restore real systems, measure the actual recovery time against the target, and update the runbooks with what the test exposed. Cognativ has done this work for telecom and fintech platforms where outages carried direct revenue risk.
Set Targets and Design Recovery
Recovery targets per service, the protection that meets them, and the runbooks to follow.
Run It and Measure
Scheduled recovery tests, measured against the targets, with fixes fed back into the plan.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Questions
What to expect before you start.
What is the difference between business continuity and disaster recovery?
Business continuity covers how the whole organization keeps operating during a disruption. Disaster recovery is the technical part: restoring systems and data within agreed targets.
What are RTO and RPO?
The recovery time objective (RTO) is the longest a service can be down. The recovery point objective (RPO) is how much data, measured in time, you can afford to lose. Both are set with the business for each service.
How often should a disaster recovery plan be tested?
At least once a year for each critical service, and after any major change to the systems involved. High-risk services are often tested every quarter.
Does disaster recovery protect against ransomware?
Only if backups are isolated, immutable, and regularly restored in tests. We design backups so an attacker who reaches production cannot also reach the copies.
Can you plan recovery across multiple clouds?
Yes. We plan recovery in a second region, a second provider, or between on-premises and cloud, depending on the targets and the cost each option carries.
How does a disaster recovery engagement start?
With a free first consultation, then a review of critical services and current backups. We agree on scope and fees before work begins.
